Background

The process to build the App that would become the Netawey App started long before any names were thought of or any information was written. The development of this App came as a direct response to engagements with Mi’kmaw youth across the province of Nova Scotia who expressed a strong need for a tool to help them learn about their rights and the child protection process here in Nova Scotia.

The call was answered when the Assembly of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaw Chiefs instructed Kwilmu’kw Maw-Klusuaqn (KMK) staff to secure funding to begin the development of this resource that could benefit youth, families, and all Mi’kmaw people in this territory.

The Netawey App has had the end user in mind throughout the process, focusing on streamlining all relevant child welfare information and making the content as user-friendly as possible.
